Bernedoodles

The Bernedoodle is a Hybrid cross between the Bernese Mountain dog and the standard Poodle, “Invented” in 2003, Bernedoodle's and their smaller hybrid relatives, the Mini Bernedoodle have exploded in popularity ever since. This versatile mixed breed comes in three size variations in the UK. These sizes are Mini, Standard and Ultra. This makes them adaptable to various living situations. A full-grown Bernedoodle is often medium-to-large-sized. It can reach up to 45kgs in weight and average 26 inch to the withers. The Bernedoodle coat texture can range from straight to wavy to curly. Each type influences their hypoallergenic qualities and grooming needs. Curly coats, inherited from the Poodle, are the most hypoallergenic but need more frequent grooming every 6-8 weeks to prevent matting. Wavy coats, a common mix of both parent breeds, are low-shedding, easier and less costly to maintain. Straight coats, though less common, resemble the Bernese Mountain Dog’s silky soft fur and may shed much more.

There is NEVER a guarantee that they will not shed.

The Bernedoodle can come in a full spectrum of colours, The poodle breed has more colour variations than most other breeds, We see everything from white, Cream, red all the way through to the solid black, They also have a wide variety of patterns including merle, phantoms, Tux and Parti, This helps when trying to replicate the beautiful tricolour of a Bernese Mountain dog.

Merles should not be standard with F1 Bernedoodle's as it takes two copies of the merle gene to see it visually expressed, Of which a Bernese does not carry, However the more times bred back to a poodle (meaning F1b and multi gen) will increase the chance of it showing, Merles are beautiful but they require responsible owners who understand the implications of breeding accidentally to another carrier, This causes birth defects, blindness and deafness, Skin issues and sun allergies.

You will hear the terms F1, F1b and F2, when looking at this hybrid breed

F1 ~ first generation, a 50/50 mix of Bernese and poodle.

F1b ~ one parent is an F1 but the other parent can be either another  F1, a full Poodle or a full Bernese (When bred back to the Bernese we call these  ultra Bernedoodle, 75% Bernese).

F2 ~ A F1b is mated to another F1b, Becoming a multi generation Bernedoodle, Making traits more consistent.

I aim for a dogs that are deep chest, slightly longer than tall, Low hocks and good bone, Broad muzzle not too long, expressive eyes and floppy ears, Coats either wavy or curly, Low to non shedding through selective breeding.

Our Pack

Maya

This beautiful lady is our F1b Standard Bernedoodle, She's now almost 3 years old, 26 Inch to the withers and 37kg.

She is an absolute gem, she is tactful when meeting new dogs, very friendly, has the cutest Grrr when she plays, She is a great combination of calm indoors and fun outdoors.

Her coat is beautiful, It grows woolly and curly, We clip it off once a year so that she is comfortable through the summer months.

She started out a gorgeous dark brown and tan phantom  and has faded to Cafe Au Lait phantom, Fading occurs most often in F1b Bernedoodles as the percentage of poodle DNA is higher and poodles often carry the fading gene.

Daisy

This beautiful lady is a F1 Standard Bernedoodle.

She has come to us Aged 20 months.

She is a big girl at 28 Inch to the Withers, Her weight was very low at the start However we addressed this and slowly rebuilt her condition to optimum health.

This beautiful girl is in her 5th Home in less than two years and no dog deserves that level of uncertainty and upheaval.

We tracked her breeder and were shocked but pleased to learn she was ethically bred with a contract in place that her previous owners disregarded, This may lead to civil action.

Daisy has a full DNA panel and Health Screen, Available to view, She is clear for all 263 tested markers, Eyes are clear/unaffected PRA and Clear for vWD1.

Named Missy because she is a little confident, sassy character and she is joining us from Ireland.

We are hoping for the same easy going, loving, cuddly temperament we have come to love.

I don't know how anyone can resist her cute little face.

She's confident, relaxed and adventurous, She's a cracking little lass.
